Unique Eats: The Mudgee Edition – Our Must-Try Favourites
Because it’s not just about the wine
When you think of Mudgee, world-class wine might be the first thing that comes to mind—but our region’s culinary scene is just as impressive. From organic olive oils to artisan sourdough and small-batch chocolate, Mudgee is home to passionate makers creating flavours worth travelling for.
Here are eight local food producers we think should be at the top of your must-try list.
High Valley Cheese Co.
Using traditional cheesemaking methods and locally sourced milk from Dubbo, High Valley creates small-batch fetas and a range of artisan cheeses. You’ll find their products on menus across Australia, but nothing beats tasting them fresh from the source. Visit their tasting room at The Cellar by Gilbert to sample their creamy, full-flavoured creations.
Spencer Cocoa
Chocolate lovers, prepare yourselves. Twice a year, owner and chocolatier Luke Spencer travels to Vanuatu to source premium cocoa beans, bringing them back to Mudgee to roast, grind, and temper into irresistible bars. Their new tasting cellar is the perfect spot to indulge and learn more about their bean-to-bar process.
Rylstone Olive Press
Known internationally for their award-winning organic extra virgin olive oils, the team at Rylstone Olive Press takes pride in pressing every batch within six hours of harvest—capturing maximum freshness and flavour. Their blends are rich, vibrant, and a perfect taste of the region.
Linda’s Sweet Chilli Relish & Sauces
Gluten-free, dairy-free, and handmade with local ingredients, Linda’s condiments pack a punch. Choose from four varieties of Sweet Chilli Relish, an Asian Plum & Chilli Sauce, or her decadent Luscious Hot Chocolate Sauce. Ideal for BBQs, cheese platters, or simply elevating everyday meals.
Hello Lovelies
These hand-crafted seasonal cordials are made from local fruits and foraged herbs, resulting in beautifully bottled flavours that are as vibrant as the Mudgee landscape. Perfect mixed with sparkling water, cocktails, or drizzled over desserts. You’ll find Hello Lovelies at the Farmers Markets.
Bonus Tip
If you’re visiting Mudgee on the third Saturday of the month, head to the Mudgee Fine Foods Farmers’ Market. It’s the perfect opportunity to meet these makers, stock up on their products, and discover even more regional flavours.
